About Us

St. Anthony’s Hospice provides primary healthcare to individuals with life-limiting illnesses, typically in the final six months of life and usually in the comfort of their own homes.  St. Anthony’s provides a holistic approach of care, utilizing a team of nurses, nursing aides, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers who are committed to alleviating physical pain and symptoms related to the terminal condition while maximizing emotional, spiritual, and familial well- being.  St. Anthony’s strives to protect and uphold each individual’s dignity as he/she approaches the end of life, a practice that oftentimes can be lost in traditional cure-driven care.

The primary objectives of hospice care are to alleviate pain and suffering for individuals at the end of their lives as well as their families.  The end-of-life can be time of fear and trepidation.  However, St. Anthony’s clinicians seek to increase family confidence and hope for a peaceful end-of-life experience, whether that experience encompasses five hours or five years.  The organization’s hope is that individuals with life-limiting illnesses feel that the end of life is a time when their human dignity is honored and their families are strengthened by a holistic form of care.

Hospice provides care to individuals and their families regardless of their ability to pay.  All appropriate co-payments and other various charges are billed to families in keeping with insurance and Medicare mandates, but a liberal fee reduction schedule places most charges within the 100% fee reduction category.

St. Anthony’s Hospice services families living in Henderson, Union, Webster Counties in Northwest Kentucky. The Lucy Smith King Care Center, our hospice inpatient unit, was opened in October of 2008. In 2016, St. Anthony’s began it’s Palliative Care program in our normal service area.

Although St. Anthony’s Hospice is a free-standing, not-for-profit organization governed by its own local board of directors, the organization does have member affiliations with a few groups.  St. Anthony’s is a member of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization as well as the Kentucky Association of Hospice & Palliative Care (KAHPC).  St. Anthony’s leadership is active in the governance of the KAHPC.  In addition, St. Anthony’s Hospice is a member of the Kentucky Hospice Network, a group purchasing organization which also shares intellectual capital and educational resources among its 10 Kentucky based members.

Our mission: St. Anthony’s Hospice, in partnership with the community, seeks to maximize the quality and dignity of life for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses.  Through a holistic approach, our professional team is honored to guide and empower patients, families, and caregivers during life’s most sacred journey.
